Presentation:

In the region of BOKOU BIKINI, to attract the tourists who usually prefer more prestigious destinations (Kenya.), we had a brilliant marketing idea : Here, instead of white striped of black zebras, the Zebras are black striped of white!! .... As long as tourists are convinced by it! Quick, quick, it is necessary to create a reserve of savage animals emphasizing these funny Zebras. Impala Jones, the ranger of the reserve, calls upon two adventurers (you and your adversary) to establish on the 6 sectors of this natural space: crocodiles, lions, gazelles, elephants and zebras... But he more or less defines the attribution of the pieces.... Be ware: only the one who will have shown its capacity to attract the greatest number of tourists will be finally selected to manage the reserve.

Some principal concepts :

The natural reserve is materialized by a plate of 30 boxes (5*6), and is divided into 6 zones (2 zones of 3 boxes, 2 zones of 5 boxes and 2 zones of 7 boxes) Each player has 15 savage animals: - 6 gazelles of value 2 - 5 zebras of value 6 - 1 elephant of value 5 - 1 lion of value 1 - 2 crocodiles of value 0 (the value of the animals represents their capacity of attraction on the tourists)

At the time of your turn, it will be necessary for you to establish in the reserve one of the animals at your disposal.... But not anywhere: you can only do it in the line or the column opposite to the "Impala Jones" pawn, and this pawn was placed there by your adversary. By paying attention to the lions which make flee the gazelles and which frighten the zebras, By taking into account that the Elephant is not afraid of the lion, by paying attention to the crocodiles which can always try to cross the river to crunch a gazelle, by paying special attention to trie to obtain the majority in the most interesting sectors of the reserve: Indeed, when the plate is completely filled, each one count the points for the zones which he controls: - the zones which you control are those where you have the most pawns with your colour - in these zones, you score the points of all the animals present (including those of your adversary...) Let us add to this score a small bonus for the player who finished the first zone (inauguration of the reserve bonus) And you have a small quickly played and sympathetic game, with no chance factor ... full of bounces (inevitably, with these gazelles which jump in all the directions....)

English rule (without pictures)

The English detailed rule tactics:

To know how to play your Lion at the convenient moment is one of the keys of the victory: - Played too early, your adversary has all the leisure to place its zebras in zones without risk - Played too late, it is certain that your lion will frighten gazelles and zebras in zones which belongs to you..... Therefore, think well before making the decision.

Game story:

I always have been fascinated by the pentominos, this brilliant puzzle with 12 different parts all which offers many ludic possibilities of constructions. It is by observing these weird parts which are assembled to finally make a rectangle that I had the idea of the boardgame to be cut out inyo 6 zones. It was significant that these zones had an odd number of boxes (like that, with two players, no problem of equality to be solved) At the beginning, the topic was Urbain. Two players, architects building the most daring buildings of a new city, under the glance of the mayor who defined in which line or column they could establish themselves. But if the game functioned well, the topic was nevertheless a little cold and not funny at all. And I like movement, and buildings, it is inevitably a little static. Then the idea of the reserve with savage animals came rather naturally. It was a pretext for a funny story with black zebras striped of white, with the ranger Impala Jones, and to introduce some interactions between predators (lions and crocodiles) and preys (gazelles and zebras)... The game immediately worked well, but some adjustments were still needed. Indeed, in this game without any random event, I was with the first prototype surprised by the reaction of testers precisely reproaching it a random side. While discussing in-depth with them, I realized that the size of the plate (at the beginning of 42 boxes 6*7), and numbers it possibilities offered (bungallows which doubled the value of zones, and water points which increased the value of the animals) led the players to have too many information, and thus to play a little randomly. Once the surface and the number of pawns changed, the balance appeared much more satisfactory, a good mix between control and risk taking. The strategist will be able to really try to pre-empt the long term, while the child will play in the short run, by taking a malicious pleasure to frighten gazelles and zebras with its lion.
